Downloading and installing Examplify is the first step every nursing student must complete before their first ExamSoft proctored exam. Before You Download Examplify
Before downloading Examplify, make sure you have:
- Your institution ID (a short code your school provides — e.g., “chamberlain”, “wcu”, “drexel”)
- Your school email address and password for the ExamSoft student portal
- A computer that meets Examplify’s minimum system requirements (see below)
- A stable internet connection for the initial download and registration

Windows
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- At least 4GB RAM (8GB recommended)
- At least 2GB free disk space
- 1024×768 screen resolution or higher
- Working webcam and microphone (for ExamMonitor-enabled exams)
- Chrome or Firefox browser (for portal access)
Mac
- macOS 12 (Monterey), macOS 13 (Ventura), macOS 14 (Sonoma), or macOS 15 (Sequoia)
- At least 4GB RAM (8GB recommended)
- At least 2GB free disk space
- Working webcam and microphone (for ExamMonitor-enabled exams)
Note: Chromebooks are NOT supported by Examplify. If you only have a Chromebook, contact your school’s ExamSoft administrator about loaner laptop options.
How to Download Examplify — Step by Step
Step 1: Log Into Your School’s ExamSoft Student Portal
Go to examsoft.com and click the “Student/ExamTaker” link. Enter your institution ID when prompted — this is the short code your school gave you (examples: “chamberlain,” “wcu,” “loyno,” “drexel”). You’ll be redirected to your school’s ExamSoft login page. Log in with your school credentials.
Step 2: Find the Examplify Download Link
Once logged into the portal, look for a “Download Examplify” button or link. Click it. Your browser will download the Examplify installer file (.exe for Windows, .dmg for Mac).
Step 3: Install Examplify
Windows: Open the downloaded .exe file. If Windows asks “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?” click Yes. Follow the installation wizard prompts. Examplify will install to your Applications folder.
Mac: Open the downloaded .dmg file. Drag the Examplify icon to your Applications folder. If macOS says “Examplify cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer,” go to System Preferences → Privacy & Security and click “Open Anyway.”
Step 4: Register Examplify with Your Institution
Open Examplify for the first time. Click “Add New Account” and enter your institution ID. Log in with your school email and ExamSoft portal password. Examplify will sync your account and any available exams.
Step 5: Take the Mock Exam
After registration, you should see a Mock Exam in your available exams list. Always take the mock exam before your first real exam. It tests that Examplify works correctly on your device — the webcam, microphone, screen lock, and upload process. The password for most mock exams is “password1” or is provided by your school.
Common Examplify Download Problems & Fixes
“Examplify won’t download”
Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox work best for the portal). Disable browser pop-up blockers. If your antivirus software blocks the download, temporarily disable it during download and installation.
“Mac says Examplify can’t be opened”
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll to the bottom and click “Open Anyway” next to the Examplify message.
“Examplify doesn’t meet minimum system requirements”
Update your operating system. On Mac, update to the latest supported macOS version. On Windows, ensure you’re running Windows 10 or 11 with all updates applied.
“I don’t see the Mock Exam after registering”
Click “Refresh Exam List” at the bottom of the Examplify dashboard. If the mock exam still doesn’t appear, contact your school’s ExamSoft administrator — they need to make the mock exam available to you.
